Default Need a new PC for family

Hi there

we are looking to buy a new pc for home, the one we have at the moment still runs Windows 98 and the kids are driving me nuts.

Broadband is getting installed in the next 10 days so we need something soon. I use it for general office stuff Word, Excel, Powerpoint and hopefully surfing the net my sister is fed up with us using hers. Now the kids (age 10 and 12) the list is endless but I will do my best to let you know what they want to use it for, top of the list The Sims and all expansion packs, digital photos, transfering music on to there MP3s and last but not least school work.

Now for our budget the max is £500 and if I am being honest I would like it to last a good couple of years.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Kazza,

There is a fantastic deal for the Dimension 9200 at the moment. If your budget can stretch to £528 you can pick up a Dimension 9200 with a quad core Intel CPU, a 19" widescreen tft, 2GB Ram, 320GB Hard drive, a decent graphics card, a DVD writer and a choice of either Windows Vista or Windows XP!

This config will definitely last you a good couple of years...

Hi,

I am not that up-to-date on graphics cards so I hope someone else can offer some more detailed advice on this.

I am pretty sure it will be plenty good enough for The SIMS/2 and other low to mid range games, but as you say, not too sure about the hi-end games.
