Thanks. However, it does not work for N0452508 after adjusting price over 599, but works well for N0452518.

Aha! That explains the problem I was having yesterday. I tried one system build and got the discount, then tried another one and didn't get it. I assumed it was because I was only allowed one try and then the discount was cancelled!

Unfortunately N0452508 (£399 headline price) was the one I really wanted. I don't want to pay extra for the 4-year warranty and webcam you get with N0452518. I could go down to N0452506 (£379 headline price), but that's a rather poorer deal, especially as they're offering a free colour finish on the higher systems (this weekend only). The poorer deal cancels out most of the benefit of the 10% discount.

By the way, the £599 figure that you have to reach to get the discount isn't the total price. It's the base price, before subtracting the automatic discount and adding delivery. For example, N0452506 has a headline price of £379, so you might think you only had to add £220 of extras to get the 10% discount. But the base price of this system is only £369 (minus £50 discount, plus £60 delivery, makes £379), so you need to add £230 of extras. And then the amount of the voucher discount is based on the price after subtracting the automatic discount but before adding delivery, so in this example (adding £230 of extras to the £379 system) the discount would be only 10% of £549, not %10 of £599. And finally, although most accessories are included in the discount, printers are not. (It took a bit of experimenting to work all that out!)

I think I'll try contacting Dell sales tomorrow and see if they'll fix the problem, but I'm not optimistic. If they don't, I might go for N0452518, with the 4-year warranty. I found that once you've selected your free colour upgrade, you can get the voucher discount without selecting any other extras. Compared with the basic N0452508, this gives you all the following for an extra £83:
- Upgrade T5550 processor to T7250 (usually +£40)
- Add webcam (usually +£20)
- Add Bluetooth adaptor (usually +£30)
- Add 4-year at-home warranty.
If you actually want those first 3 upgrades, you're effectively getting the extra warranty for free! Personally, I reckon those upgrades are worth about £40 to me. So I'd be paying about £40 for the extra warranty, which is probably worth it, though I don't usually go in for extended warranties.

But I'd rather have the discount on the N0452508, and only select things that I really want.

The other option is to wait a few days till next month and see what Dell's new deals are. They might be even better.

Ah... I hadn't noticed that one. I was only looking at the 4 systems shown on Dell's own Inspiron 1525 page.

It's certainly a better deal if you're not very interested in the 4-year warranty. I see this system also has an upgrade of the wifi adaptor to "wireless N", for what that's worth.

It's yet another option to consider. But I'm now leaning more towards waiting till next month. I'm not in any great hurry, and it seems that these Dell voucher codes keep coming up.

I've done it! I decided I couldn't be bothered spending any more time searching for a better bargain and struggling with the Dell web site. (Is it just me, or is the Dell web site excruciatingly slow at times?) So I went ahead and ordered N0452518, the one with the 4-year warranty.

I decided against N0452512, as the general consensus on the web seems to be that upgrading to 3Gb RAM will have negligible benefit at present, and if I need to upgrade later I can probably do it cheaper then. In fact, it appears that upgrading to 3Gb can slightly degrade performance, as you won't get the full benefit of dual channel memory unless both memory modules are the same, though I doubt this would make a noticeable difference. Also, I can't imagine ever using more than 160Gb of disk space. The only application that would need anywhere near this much would be saving television programmes, and, if I want to do that, I'd be better off getting a bigger disk for my PVR.

So I ordered N0452518 plus a Bluetooth mouse and 15 months of McAfee internet protection (£10 each). I also chose the yellow finish. Final price: £500.10.

One final thing. Looking at other configurations, I'd noticed they came with a "Dell travel remote control", a little IR remote for controlling DVD playback. This wasn't a selectable option. It was just listed in the final schedule, so I assumed it came with all the 1525s. I was a bit muffed, then, to find out that N0452518 doesn't have it after all! Oh well, never mind.

This will likely be my last post to this thread. But I'll continue following it. I'd like to hear what you decide to buy, sysboy. Good luck!

Have you received your laptop? In the end of April, finally I ordered the N0452517 for my friend at the toal price £399. Compared with N0552508, N0452517 has a additional web camera with the same price. Although I think its configuration is not so strong, my friend is very satisfied with it at such a low price. Later I may order one for myself. Good luck.

Yes, I've had it a couple of weeks now and I'm very happy with it. It seems very well designed, though I can't really compare with other laptops as I've hardly used any before.

The one small thing I would say against it is that the screen is too reflective for my taste. Before buying, I read in reviews of the Inspiron 1525 that there was an option to choose a less reflective screen, and I was going to choose that option. But it didn't seem to be available any more.
