Default Studio XPS 'noisy and cramped'?

Hello!

A recent PC Pro review gave the Studio XPS 3-stars:

PC Pro: Product Reviews: Dell Studio XPS 435mt

It cites it as being good value but 'noisy and cramped'. Can anyone tell me if its possible to buy one, take out all components and place them in an alternative case? I've tried pricing the components individually but the Dell is always cheaper. I have no experience of Dells and am unsure if the components they use are standard PC. Thanks

Default

It looks like the same case/chassis as used on the Vostro 220 and Studio desktops....these are slightly revised versions of the Vostro200 which I have.

The motherboard is a fairly standard atx type as far as I can tell BUT the rear socket layout might mean it hard to fit into another ATX case, possibly some fiddling might be require. also likely atx standard is the powersupply. The HD and DVD drives are standard also.

Now, things like case fans and CPU fans are often slightly non standard with Dell.

I've been very pleased with my Vostro 200 but that cost me £250.... the case is small and cramped and a little noisy (not too loud) and looking at the current models it looks like a very similar fan arrangement is used.

Many people are commenting on the loud fans in this new model
Dell Studio XPS Desktop

So it's a fast i7 CPU but in a small noisy case..... might be worth considering the xps 430 which is probably BTX motherboard which are often cooler running/less noisy but bigger... and not i7 CPU.
