Jumping cursor

My son passed his old Inspiron 1545 on to me but every time I write any text, the cursor keeps jumping back to a point earlier in the text. Not being computer minded I have been unable to correct this and neither has my son. Someone please help as it drives me mad.

Hi Pete,

Never came across this problem before. It does sound like a software problem rather than hardware though. Have you tried updating your software and drivers etc?
